WORLD HEALTH DAY - 7 APRIL

World Health Day is observed every year on April 7th to raise awareness about the importance of global health and to promote healthy living for everyone. The theme for World Health Day 2023 is "Achieving Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere."

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set a goal to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) by 2030. This means that everyone should have access to quality healthcare services, without suffering financial hardship. However, this goal seems challenging, especially for low- and middle-income countries that are facing significant health challenges and a lack of resources.

According to the WHO, more than half of the world's population still does not have access to essential health services, and about 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty every year because of health-related expenses. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the inequalities in access to healthcare services and the urgent need to prioritize health for all.

The World Health Statistics report, released by the WHO in 2022, provides a comprehensive overview of the state of global health. Here are some of the key findings:

  1. Life expectancy has increased, but there are still significant disparities between countries and regions. Globally, life expectancy at birth has increased by six years since 1990, from 65 years to 71 years in 2020. However, there are still significant disparities between high-income countries and low- and middle-income countries. For example, in Japan, the life expectancy is 84 years, while in Sierra Leone, it is only 54 years.

  1. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. NCDs, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases, are responsible for 74% of all deaths globally. The report highlights that many of these deaths are preventable through early detection and timely treatment.

  1. Mental health conditions are a growing concern. The report states that one in four people globally will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lives. However, mental health services are often inadequate, especially in low- and middle-income countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the mental health crisis, with many people experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues due to the pandemic's impact.

  1. There is a significant shortage of health workers globally. The report highlights that there is a global shortage of about 18 million health workers, which is a significant barrier to achieving universal health coverage. This shortage is most acute in low- and middle-income countries, where health workers are often overworked and underpaid.

  1. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on global health. The pandemic has affected every aspect of global health, from access to healthcare services to mental health and NCDs. The report highlights that the pandemic has exposed the weaknesses in many health systems and has underlined the urgent need for investment in health infrastructure, workforce development, and research.

In conclusion, World Health Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of global health and to advocate for health for all. The World Health Statistics report highlights the significant challenges that still need to be addressed to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. It is essential to prioritize investment in health infrastructure, workforce development, and research to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to quality healthcare services without suffering financial hardship.

The Courage to Be Disliked is a book by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga that outlines the principles of Adlerian psychology. One of the core principles of Adlerian psychology is the concept of separation of tasks. In this context, separation of tasks refers to the idea that each individual should focus on their own tasks and responsibilities in order to achieve their goals and live a fulfilling life. In this article, we will explore the concept of separation of tasks in detail and its significance . According to Adlerian psychology, every individual has a unique set of tasks or responsibilities that they need to fulfill in order to live a fulfilling life. These tasks are not imposed upon them by society or by any external factors, but rather they are a result of their own choices and decisions. For example, a person may choose to pursue a particular career, have a family, or engage in a particular hobby. These choices are based on their own goals and desires, and they form the basis ...
